Rasp holder

Keeping a clean and organised workshop requires each tool to have a specific place to live. To keep the top of my mitre saw bench clear, I therefore needed a holder for my rasps.

I started by measuring out the space the rasps were going to take up and laid them out on a piece of mdf. I decided to leave the bottom half of the holder open, so I can see the shape of the rasps I am selecting. I cut strips of a suitable thickness mdf to use as spacers between the three different shaped rasps and then glued them in place.

I fitted a front piece of mdf to the top of the dividers and then clamped it in place using the mitre saw bench as a flat surface. I left the glue to dry overnight and then test fitted the rasps the following day.

Once I was happy with the fit, I cut the excess mdf off and rounded the corners slightly using sandpaper. I also glued on an additional piece of mdf to the top and glued on a scrap wood offcut, which I cut previously to a 45 degree angle using my table saw.

Once this was also dried, I mounted the holder onto the French cleat on the left front of my mitre saw bench next to the holders for my chisels and files. Now the rasps have a place to live that keeps them off the bench top and means I can find them more easily when I need them! 🔨
