Mini files holder

For some projects I make, I need to be able to smooth the inside of small curves and holes. To that end, I got myself a set of mini files and then made myself a holder to keep them in!

As this was a workshop project and didn’t need to look particularly decorative, I opted for some scrap mdf. I laid out all the files on one piece and worked out the rough dimensions needed. I then cut multiple strips to act as dividers between the files.

I glued all the dividers in place, wiping out any glue squeeze out. I placed the front panel on top and clamped the whole thing together, leaving it overnight for the glue to fully dry. Once dry, I trimmed the edges flush using my table saw and then cut a 45 degree bevel on a scrap piece of pine to use as a French cleat.

I glued the pine onto the back of the holder, again leaving it to dry held in place with clamps.

Once the glue was fully dry, I sanded the holder to smooth out the joins and rounded over the edges of the holder to make it more comfortable to grab files from.

I mounted the finished mini files holder on the 45 degree pine French cleat on the front of the mitre saw bench, so I now have easy access to all my mini files for future projects Another quick win as a workshop project and ensures another set of tools has a dedicated home! 🔨
