Hammer holder

A good woodworker always knows where their tools are! And I have found that having a standard claw hammer to hand is especially useful for putting in (or removing!) nails. Time for a dedicated holder!

This was an interesting holder to make, due to the slightly wierd shape of a claw hammer. I grabbed a thin piece of mdf to use as a backing plate and some thicker pieces to use to make the holding shape. I drew around the hammer head and then used my coping saw to cut the shape out following the contours of the hammer head.

I kept testing the hammer in the shapes to make sure it was a good fit and used some 40 grit sandpaper to refine the shape of the mdf to get a snug fit. I then glued the pieces in place, using some clamps to hold the pieces while the glue dried.

I mounted the holder to the side of the shelving on the mitre saw bench, positioning the hammer in a good spot next to some other holders I made previously.

I am really pleased with how this turned out, as it was something I quickly threw together in a short space of time. It holds the hammer securely and is very functional, albeit not quite so decorative! But it will function nicely until I redesign the workshop and make a new and improved tool storage system! 🔨
