Mitre saw bench – Part 9 – Extra legs

To allow my mitre saw bench to cope with the extra weight of some planned storage upgrades, I first needed to add some extra legs to take the additional weight!

I used some offcuts of pine 2x4s to create a solid leg, using a shorter piece as the shoulder and with a longer piece to secure it to the horizontal stretchers of the mitre saw bench.

This took some careful measuring to ensure I accounted for the height of the casters and made sure the longer 2×4 piece didn’t stick up above the top of the horizontal stretcher, where it would get in the way of a shelf surface or drawers.

I secured the two pieces of 2×4 for each leg together with off-set wood screws, drilling pilot holes before fixing the screws with my impact driver. I then measured to the middle of each under bench section and lined up the extra legs. I secured them in place with a number of off-set wood screws, using additional lighting to make it easier to see (and I only hit my head multiple times!).

With the 4 extra legs now fitted, each side of the mitre saw bench has 6 casters to support the weight of shelves and drawers above, which should provide a solid base for my future storage upgrade plans! 🔨
