Mitre saw bench – Part 14 – Latches for house moving

House moving is fast approaching – time to start securing things in place ready for transport!

This was a very quick and simple solution to a challenge I was trying to solve – how do you stop drawers from opening in transit without having to remove everything in the drawers and transport the drawers separately?

The simple solution was some “turn button thumb latches” – a single screw in the middle of a turn-able metal fixing. This allows me to quickly secure the drawers in place for moving the whole mitre saw bench without the drawers flying open and smacking me in the shins, while also allowing me to access the contents again with just a quick rotation of the catches to the horizontal or vertical position accordingly.

Sometimes the simple solutions are the best!

I secured five to the front of the mitre saw bench – one for each drawer – and am surprisingly pleased with the result. The catches don’t get in the way at all when not in use and allow the drawers to be held firmly shut. If needed I can always add additional catches to the right hand side of the lower drawers to provide a second holding point, but these should work very nicely for loading into the van for transport to the new workshop!🔨
