Mitre saw bench – Part 8 – Updated stop block #3

Happy New Year! Somehow we have reached 2023 despite it not feeling like that long since March 2020! I have a great number of completed projects to share plus a number of other exciting projects on the go currently, which I will be sharing over the course of the next year. And I am always making small improvements to things I have created previously in the workshop, including an updated stop block for my mitre saw bench.

This was a very simple update, as I wanted a more solid stop block than the version I had previously – I found I was hitting it out of alignment sometimes when sliding large pieces of lumber along the bench top and butting it up against the stop block. So I grabbed some offcuts of white melamine coated chipboard, left over from making some shelving for my wardrobe and glued and screwed them together into a solid piece.

Making the block

I secured the block to the movable fitting on my t-track on the mitre saw fence using additional screws.

Mounting to the mitre saw fence

I tested the stop block ran smoothly against the fence and added a slight chamfer to the back bottom corner to allow sawdust to escape and not be trapped between the stop block and the fence.

This was a very quick little upgrade to my workshop, which will hopefully make it a little easier to make projects in future. Sometimes the most useful changes to a workshop are not huge investments in new tools or significant project builds to create a new storage solution, but small incremental changes to gradually make improvements to the workflow. If this stop block works for me, it will definitely get used an awful lot with all the plans I have for things to make over the next year! 🔨
