Keeping a clean and tidy workshop requires everything to have a home and not be simply left on a surface. As my assortment of measuring tools has grown, I decided to make a quick holder for them out of some scrap wood, so I can try and keep a neat and tidy workshop!
I started by raiding my scrap wood box, which grows so very quickly! I selected some offcuts of mdf from a previous project and worked out what tools I wanted to have in the holder.

I have a couple of tools for measuring angles, plus a set square and an adjustable combination square. Trying to fit them all next to each other was a bit of a challenge, so I made small slots and overlaid them in the same space so the holder didn’t take up a huge amount of room.

I glued the pieces in place, checking the tools still fitted in each of the slots and wiping out the excess glue.

I left the glue to dry overnight and then sanded over the sharp corners to make it less likely to injure me when grabbing a measuring tool!

I mounted the holder on the side of one of the shelves on my mitre saw bench and slid all the tools into their respective holders.
“A place for everything and everything in its place“

I plan to make a more permanent holder in future to hold a number of other measuring tools, including longer rulers, measures and levels, but this quick and easy scrap version will function very nicely in the meantime! 🔨
