Dremel stand – base and platform

To assist with carving using my Dremel, I invested in a Dremel stand. This has quite a narrow base however and makes clamping it down a bit of a challenge. Time to make a quick additional base to solve that problem!

I had some white melamine coated chipboard left over from a dismantled wardrobe, so decided to use some of that to make a quick wider base. I selected some short narrow sections to use as framing and a larger piece for the base. The Dremel stand (not sponsored) does have screw holes in the corners, but I wanted a base that I could remove and stand vertically for easier storage in the limited space in my workshop.

I positioned the stand in the centre and towards the front of the larger board, giving me lots of space in front and behind to clamp the stand to the workbench.

I fixed the framing pieces in place with wood screws and tested that I could mount and remove the stand easily.

I also decided to add a flat platform across the top of the stand to give it some protection from the various bits I use in the Dremel, as well as give me a smooth surface for sliding workpieces around underneath the cutting bits. I cut four small blocks and then used the guide tracks in the base of the stand to secure the platform in place using short wood screws, so they didn’t go through the platform.

This was a very quick project, without any planning involved, to give me the functionality I needed for another project. I will probably update this in subsequent weeks as it is a bit clunky and a bit awkward. However, it does the job – on to the next project! 🔨
